This list will provide answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about electric bikes to help you make an informed decision or just learn a little more!
Electric bikes offer a fully customizable workout and riding experience. Unlike a conventional bike, e-bikes offer pedal-assist and throttle thanks to the built-in battery and motor. In this way, electric bikes offer the best of both worlds.
Can I still get exercise with e-bikes?
Absolutely! Many riders choose a low level of pedal-assist to ensure that they still get a good workout in while not becoming entirely exhausted. E-bikes are a great exercise option for seniors, those with limited flexibility, or those looking to add some variety to their workouts.
Are E-bikes a good way to commute?
E-bikes are a great way to commute. Never again worry about arriving to work sweaty and fatigued thanks to the pedal-assist option with most e-bikes. City commutes that utilize bike lanes, bike paths, and sidewalks are great for e-bikes. E-bikes may not be used on freeways or highways.
How far can an e-bike travel on a single charge?
The range of a given e-bike depends on the model of the bike and the settings chosen by the rider, but most e-bikes can travel between 25 to 60 miles on a single charge (or 40 to 100km).
How fast can an e-bike go?
An e-bike’s top speed is determined by the model of bike and the country of operation. For example, a Honbike Uni4 model e-bike has a top speed set at 15.5mph in most European countries and a top speed of 20mph in the United States. This is because speed limits are regulated differently by each individual country and each class of e-bike.
Electric bikes generally fall into three categories.
Class 1 e-bikes offer pedal assist only. They can reach a top speed of 20 MPH.
Class 2 e-bikes offer pedal assist and throttle, with a maximum speed of 20MPH.
Class 3 e-bikes offer pedal assist and throttle. The throttle only reaches 20 MPH when pedal assist reaches a top speed of 28 MPH.
Types of Honbike models: HF01 is a class 1 e-bike with top speed of 15.5MPH, and Uni4 is a class 2 e-bike with a max speed of 20MPH. We will expand more types of electric bicycles in the future.
How much do e-bikes weigh?
Most electric bikes weigh between 33 and 66 lbs (Such as Honbike electric commuter bikes weigh at about 45lbs) while some heavier e-bikes may reach upwards of 100 lbs. or more.
Can electric bikes get wet?
Many, but not all, electric bikes are water-resistant. For example, Honbike HF01 & Uni4 are rated IPX65 & IPX6 highly water resistant so a light rain or quick rinse will not damage them. However, e-bikes should not be used underwater or in very deep puddles due to their electrical parts.
How much will I reduce my carbon footprint if I use an e-bike instead of a car?
Studies have shown e-bikes use far less energy per mile traveled than gasoline engine-powered cars. Exactly how much less depends on a variety of factors such as the location, age of the e-bike, and rider characteristics such as height and weight. This is because electric bikes are smaller in size and weight, and have rechargeable batteries that need a fraction of the energy of traditional transportation methods to charge.
